One of my favourite places in Helsinki is the National Library of Finland, also known as university’s main library to some. It’s designed C.L.Engel in 1836 and built in 1840-45. It’s typical empire and neo-classism style.
One of my previous posts was about Agronomitalo at Kasarmitori. Here’s another beautiful building from the same area and same square. Built 1906.
Tori : square (like market square) Linna : castle, fortress Kasarmi : barracks
Photo above : The yellow building to the right used to be the main building of the army barracks of the Finnish Guard. Built 1822, architecture Engel. Nowadays the main building for Finnish Ministry of Defence.
